Lost Art Aviation Projects
Below are some of the projects Lost Art Aviation has been a part of.
XP-82 Twin Mustang
Under the leadership of Tom Reilly of Douglas, Georgia, this ultra-rare plane made history on December 31, 2018, and took to the skies for the first time in decades, becoming the only airworthy Twin Mustang in the world! I was involved in the disassembly of the original fuselage, where each part was duplicated to create the second fuselage. I was responsible for the fabrication of the longerons, engine mounts, carburetor inlet scoops, and numerous small parts.
Stinson SR5
Harry Ballance of Atlanta, Georgia, located this 1934 Stinson Reliant SR5 that was originally purchased new by his father. After purchasing the SR5, Harry decided to have the aircraft fully restored. I was asked to fabricate new fairings for the wheel pants and soon thereafter came on board to oversee this project and make it the airplane that it is today. The Stinson is scheduled to be on display in the vintage area at Oshkosh AirVenture 2019.
DH-4
Under the leadership of Dorian Walker, this De Havilland DH-4 World War I bomber is currently under restoration. I was asked to fabricate the engine cowling, radiator cowling, lower engine cowling, bell cranks, and hinges from the original 1918 blueprints.
UH-1 Huey
Originally built in 1968, a group of volunteers renovated this Vietnam-era Army UH-1 Huey in Williamson, Georgia. My contribution was the simulated greenhouse glass that I made out of aluminum so that it would last for years to come.
Piper Cub J3
Asked to fabricate the engine cowling of this Piper Cub J3.
Navy N3N
I’m currently restoring a Navy N3N and will share progress along the way!
